Ebassist NFL/American Football Thread

Let's get this started on a 'realistic appraisal of where the NFL's priorities are' note:

The National Football League has decided that smoking pot is 8 times worse than beating a woman unconscious and dragging her through a public place (on video).

The NFL - "We could give a shit about 45% of our fanbase, I mean, they probably deserved it, mirite?"

Actually the BS is that if an everyday average man like me did that, I would be serving time in jail. An NFL player? Not so much.

I generally don't like Olbermann, but this is well done (especially the bookends).

So far he's the only one I've heard straight up calling the NFL liars (and providing proof they are) and he's the only one explicitly highlighting Goodell's massive ethical issue. So, "not that" is the answer to the first part of your question and "most everyone else" is a decently suitable answer to the second.

The number of people who have defended Rice in article comments, on facebook, etc. is disgusting. The fact that Steven A. Smith talked about how women need to avoid provoking violence is reprehensible (the second time he's used that phrase - that he got a week suspension for his repeat offense is gross in itself).

Coming up, Goodell is about to rule on a number of disciplinary matters (Irsay, Hardy, etc.) and his choices are 'punish them way worse than the guy who beat a woman unconscious and dragged her from an elevator' and 'give essentially no punishment' (because the only punishments less than what Rice got is a 1-game suspension and fines - both of which are laughable because Rice's punishment is laughable). There is no sense in which the NFL didn't completely and totally fuck this up, and if a writer isn't say that, I question their motivation.

The NFL are "liars"? People needed Olbermann's tired schtick to figure that out? Dude!

I didn't realize this was a one-on-one type competition. Regardless of which team wins or loses, Rodgers will always be the better QB.

Never say never. On the day that Rodgers dies, if Cutler is still living, he becomes the better quarterback, almost for sure!

Only Cub fans could be that optimistic, although year 2 seems to be a good year in Trestman's offense.

Have you paid attention to how bad the OL has been? They've given up almost as many sacks as the Bears in recent history, IINM.

Will be interesting to see the impact Peppers can make! He may really go for it against his former team.

I'm not expecting much, but he'll definitely provide some additional pass rush opposite Clay Matthews. Either way, it'll be interesting to see how they use him in certain situations. I like the versatility of being able to have him stand up or put his hand in the dirt.
