Recent NBD - The Linus Bass

So I think most of you know the story, but for those who don't, I recently received a surprise bass from Rowka, one that really has a special place in my heart, because not only is it the exact specs I had on a by-gone wish list, including color, but it includes an indelible image of my big guy, Linus, who I lost a little over a year ago. It made me cry in front of everyone, and I'm not even ashamed of that.

A handful of people got a chance to put it through its paces at the GTG, but for those who didn't, here are some demo tracks, with drums courtesy of our man fretless, who also donated the neck and some parts for the project.

https://soundcloud.com/jay-arby/sets...the-linus-bass

There are some videos floating around of various people playing it, as well.

This is a totally priceless bass to me. Thanks again to Rowka and fretless, and everyone who kept their mouths shut about it.

Beautiful ! That color is stunning and I do see they Purple haze in it . It sounds fucking killer \m/ I can't take any credit I just happened to be in the right place at the right time, which was loading a pile of bass pieces on Dan . He knew exactly what to do with them and it was a pleasure seeing regular progress pics as he built the beauty . Congrats on a really special instrument .

I'm on it, bro. It just sucks that I have to wait to hear them on some real speakers rather than this POS computer.

I was talking about more of a written review with the specs of the bass that could accompany the sound clips... like you were writing for bassplayer or something... well, better than a bassplayer magazine review I would hope.

Soundwise, it doesn't seem like there isn't anything this bass can't cover. It doesn't lack for tone or versatility, that's for sure (at least with my ear pressed against the workstation speaker so I can hear the low end... still need to listen at home.)

I recorded a little clip tonight, this bass is mad punchy.

This is the G&L ASAT and Linus, with Garageband generated drums.

Pedal effects, plug-in amp sims. As much as basic Garageband does, anyhow.

I added an MXR DynaComp to the board last week, and I used if for guitars and bass on this.

What interface are you using?
I have a USB Scarlett and garageband/logic pro. I want to mess around with recording, but whenever I sit down with my gear all set up, I realize I have nothing to put down. Wish I was creative.
