just add a CX bike and you'll be done (until the next one )
then you'll need a full-squish downhill rig, a' la LRon

No no no! She needs 3 full squishers: XC race machine; All Mountain beast like mine and a full on DH sled, though I'm not sure where you'd use it around Chicago.

Bought one of these for my boy at my LBS:

http://opusbike.com/en/bikes/kids/ages-4-6-16/scout

Got a great price too, over $100 off list, so really only a few dollars more than a Walmart/Toys R Us one. Real V-brake! I'm going to order some stuff and add one to his Strider too.

I got to get me a fatbike this year. Of course I probably need a job first.

Nice!

I was thinking about getting my kid an Islabikes Beinn 20 for his sixth birthday in a couple of months.

So...took the new bikes out Sunday...and...well, I might've already bent a rim...all I did was drop it off the curb but it's definitely bent.
Since I got them at Costco, I'm thinking about seeing if I can just replace the wheel...they do have a great return/exchange policy.

Great, now I'm looking for a reason to justify why I need fat tires. Those are really nice. The last cruiser on the page especially.

I'm digging the Brooklyn Bike Co. styles.

This one in particular:

get a set built with the deep v rims and you're pretty well set forever. good solid wheels, half or less the price of the big-names.

http://store.velocityusa.com/p/road-...els_road?pp=12

this is the very set I ride. obviously, the disc hubs aren't your thing (assume we're shopping for Tillie here), but...yeah.

I don't know anything about the parts on this except that I think I want to own one of them.

Well, Costco returned the bike, but didn't have more. Ugh. Now to find another.

it's a single-speed, probably coaster brake bike (I didn't click the links). there's really not much for "parts" to go wrong.

There might be better stuff. I didn't look too hard. There are a ton of decent older mountain bikes around $100 or less. Modern ones are around $200+.

Some search terms: Giant, Specialized, Trek, Marin, Raleigh, Cannondale, GT, Fuji, Gary Fisher, Jamis.....

Found a guy that rebuilds Giant bikes and has a Cypress LX I hope he still has this weekend.

I really like the first 2 (first is my favorite), but the other 2 are options unless I get told otherwise.

Got the LX. Pics...sometime. The frame is a little rough, but everything else made it so worth it.
To be honest, I didn't really bother looking much, though the guy had like...40 bikes for sale. He buys/trades and rebuilds them.
