Taylor Swift is a badass

Her testimony yesterday makes her one of the all time greats.

http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor...atisfying.html

Quote:
Mueller’s attorney Gabe McFarland asked Swift why the photo shows the front of her skirt in place, not lifted up, if Mueller was reaching underneath to grab her butt. “Because my ass is located in the back of my body,” Swift replied. She offered a similar response when asked whether she saw the grope taking place. When McFarland pointed out that the photo shows Swift closer to Mueller’s girlfriend than Mueller himself, Swift answered, “Yes, she did not have her hand on my ass.”

Finally saw the photo on TMZ (side note, felt gross willingly clicking on a link that lead to TMZ) and while you can't actually physically see his hand, it is pretty clear that he is touching her ass if he is touching her at all.

I was pro Taylor Swift before this, so it hasn't really changed my opinion, but good for her on asserting herself. I'm really digging this attitude:
Quote:
Swift has said several times that she wouldn’t settle with Mueller or let his claims stand because she wants to be a visible example of strength to other women considering their options after a demoralizing sexual violation. Full of rightful exasperation, her testimony on Thursday was a galvanizing example of a so-called victim testimony in which the victim refused to be victimized. Swift was confident in her version of the story, unintimidated by a cross examination that implied she was a liar and unmistakably incensed when McFarland tried to cast doubt on her behavior during the evening in question. Wasn’t Swift critical of her bodyguard, who didn’t prevent such an obvious assault? “I’m critical of your client sticking his hand under my skirt and grabbing my ass,” she told the attorney. But, McFarland said, Swift could have taken a break in the middle of her meet-and-greet if she was so distraught. “And your client could have taken a normal photo with me,” Swift countered, explaining that a pop star has a responsibility to her fans.

Her responses read like a Law & Order witness of whom, after the scene is over, Jack McCoy and the Jamie Ross remark "McFarland couldn't shake her. She aced her testimony, she made him look like an idiot"

I don't know what the gap is between her real personality and her public persona (I actually figure it's more than I'd like to know), but I do know she is masterful at maintaining that public persona. In a decade as one of the biggest celebs on the planet, she's almost never made more than a slight misstep - that's not a person you treat like a wispy little thing who's going to be confused by tricks from 'cross-examination 101.'

She's really dialed it up a notch from back then, too, IMHO. Not just a crossover act. She's hit the top of the Pop charts. She seems to me to be in the rare position as an artist to experiment and be whatever she wants to be musically.

She's a great entertainer, even if she's not a great singer by any stretch of the imagination. It just goes to show that immense vocal prowess is not required to be a tremendously famous singer (e.g. Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears). I will say that Taylor can write one heck of a song.

I'm still not sure if I believe her version of events (not that it matters), at least from the outset. I'd have to pay closer attention to see if her side could convince me. I don't find her to be a particularly truthful person in general, with the Kanye situation last year (and I hate Kanye). I hate myself even more for knowing this much about these people.

I don't have to like her music to respect the hell out of the career that she has built as well as have total respect for the way she handled herself here in Denver.

One has nothing to do with the other.

I'm glad she kicked that douchebag and his attorneys ass in court.

DJ's suit against Taylor has been dismissed. His suits against her mother and the radio handler will go to jury, as will Taylor's suit against him.

It's good that she's strong, not a fan of her music but she's indeed a role model so what she's doing is important and the testimony was brilliant.

However. It might be my Neanderthal 20th century male brain, my French education or a bad sense of values but I can't figure how grabbing an ass constitutes a sexual assault.

Unpolite, inappropriate, in bad taste all you want. It may deserve a slap in the face or getting fired, a fine maybe but an audience?

I was gifted with a decent ass that got unwillingly grabbed on several occasions by men and women alike. I found it offensive at worst but not worth bringing to our already crowded tribunals.

good thing that's not what happened.

and you can't figure out how grabbing a stranger on their butt for an extended period without their permission isn't sexual assault? I mean it's not rape, but how else would you classify groping?

At best I'd call it a physical agression. Much like a punch in the face although it is unlikely to leave as many sequels.
Sexual assault especially in USA is a lifelasting label. I don't see this as a fair punishment for ass grabbing.

Not sure.
A slight disturbance not worthy of any legal punishment unless repeated, then I'd call it harassment. I guess.
I'm just an average idiot though, not a lawyer or legislator.

He groped her, she told his employer, they fired him, he got butthurt and sued her for $3 million, and she countersued him for $1 to make a point that he got fired for being a misogynistic asshole and that was his own damn fault. Whether or not one wishes to classify groping as "sexual assault" doesn't seem to me to make much of a difference as far as the point she is making.
