I could only stomach 2 minutes of that video. The third law of Shitty Drivers states that if there is room for one car in a line, two will find their way in.

That space would be filled up with cars in no time flat and he'd likely be stuck with about a 15 minute longer commute.
The first part is likely true (although when I drive like that, it often doesn't happen), but as kindness notes, the second part isn't true.

Commute time isn't about maximum attained speed but on average speed. Whether that speed is "45 miles per hour the whole time" or "60 half the time and 30 the other half", the total time is the same. The sample size for my attempts at this are small (obviously, since it's just me), but I've never ended up with a "45 half the time, 30 the other half" situation.

i.e., I'm shooting for the lowest possible time, no matter what, helping traffic overall is great, but in LA traffic, I consider my duty to society fulfilled if I don't drag anyone from their cars and beat them to death for driving like an idiot. I'm not such a good person that I'll show up 10 minutes later just to break up traffic waves.

That's a common reaction. I work with a company that ha develope advanced techniques based on this principle and their testing procedures invoke lots of honking and given of the finger. Of course their tests also break up huge traffic waves to the benefit of everyone.
Well lah-dee-fucking-dah.

Fuck. They haven't patented it, have they? Am I going to get sued now every time I don't tailgate?

There's no "Deals worth sharing" thread, so I thought I'd post this here.

Heh, yeah. And at least a couple companies have tried to push working from home in L.A. with only limited success. People were willing to sit in L.A. traffic just to get out of the house

A friend of a friend was working at one of those places. He was baffled and asked a co-worker why they wouldn't want to work from home. "I want to get OUT of the house, not be stuck there!" was the comment given.

A lot of you know I'm a big Dan Pink fan (even though his last book was pretty "meh")...he is starting a internet broadcast series called "office hours" and I've been enjoying it.

The first one with Seth Godin is fantastic. The next one is this afternoon.

Here's the link.

"There's a real strong message there, which is that if you have a friend who you know has been depressed, or is thinking suicidal thoughts, all it takes is a couple of minutes out of your day to see if you can get Laila Ali to call them."

"if they trick you into saying something nice to an imaginary suicidal person, what does that prove? That you have a heart and care about human life? Ha ha! That troll sure exposed you!"

A radio interview with the founder of Education for Employment, which has been finding jobs for 85% of its graduates in the Middle East and North Africa, very interesting!
