Cruise stuff...

Overall, had a blast. The small part of Alaska that we saw is beautiful and I can't wait to go back. Just not sure I'd do the cruise again. Biggest complaint is there were just way too many damn people. Toward the end my wife and I were spending a lot of time in our room/balcony just to get away from the masses. Buffet lines and lack of tables got annoying. Even dinner, which we ate in the actual dining room often had lines 30 people deep. Doing things on the ship got annoying, but there was one low-key bar with a dude playing acoustic guitar most nights. We went there quite a bit.

We got the all you can drink package, which was key. I enjoyed a fair amount of Talisker 10 & although the beer selection was pretty paltry, I dug drinking Grolsch for some reason.

Trump's America is well represented on cruises. Not sure if I'm not used to that because of my Denver/Boulder bubble, but there seemed to be a disproportionate amount of hunting gear and NASCAR shirts.

But man... Alaska is awesome. Can't wait to go back. A few of the pics I took are on FB. I have some more that I didn't post because we didn't have Internet or even phone service most of the trip except at port.

Glad you had a good time. Alaska is indeed gorgeous. And I'm not a fan of cruise ships either. Never took one, but i really don't think it's my bag. Chartered yacht, sure. Cruiseliner, no fucking way.

The ship was huge (950' & 16 decks), but ~3500 passengers and ~1000 staff got to be too much... And I have a soft spot for Neil Diamond because he sang at my college graduation, but if I never hear Sweet Caroline again I'll die a happy man.

I went on an Alaska cruise once. The only other people under the age of 50 on the boat were super hot identical twin girls who were my age, so that was cool. Would you believe no one else wanted to use the hot tub?

Sorry we missed you. We tried to deliver your package today, but a signature was required and no one was available.

We'll try again on the next business day.

Yes, no shit, because I was at work. Just like I was on Friday. And thursday. I'm glad you skipped saturday though. Ya know, when people are fucking home.

And why bother leaving stupid ass post it notes on my door saying I can sign for permission to leave it, if you're just going to ignore it and put another goddamn post it next time anyway, right next to the original. I now have 3. Do you think the 3rd signature will be the key??? They form a permissionzord for the driver enabling him with "give me my fucking package already" powers?!

We may never know.

Looking forward to missing you again tomorrow. Dipshits.

In these parts, they make you go to the warehouse after the 3rd attempt... 30 miles away and they close at 6.

So eat less. The options aren't be a vegan or eat a t-bone every meal.

Just general 'not wanting to eat living creatures' thing, or the bad state of farming, or... ?

Yeah that what Ive been trying to do but just usually end up eating more meat then I intend to. it's just so easy to make a nice meal with meat. I freaking love it!

Mainly the living creatures thing but I'm sure I'd be healthier if I didn't eat as much meat as I do. I'm more then capable of making a healthy meat free diet. It's just laziness and lack of will power for all the yummy meat that stops me.

I stopped eating meat for about a year or two a few years back because of the guilt of eating animals. What I found was that it wasn't so much the meat that you crave, but the stuff that goes on it and in it.

For instance I love cheeseburgers. So I would do instead of eating one with meat, I would have one with a portable mushroom in it to replace the meat. Or I would just have all of the toppings in the bun but no meat. And while it didn't taste exactly the same, it isn't bad, and you do get used to it eventually.

I lost some weight doing this and I felt a lot better. Now for the sake of full disclosure I did go back to eating meat. But I do my damnedest not to eat a lot of it, especially red meat.

If I had one wish it would probably be not to have to eat anything ever again. Food in general grosses me out, and I'm sick of spending money on it.

I'm going on my first one out of Fort Lauderdale in August. I'm apprehensive about it but everyone reassures me I'll love it. I'm not convinced. I hope it's not super crowded because there are few things I hate more.

Hey, at least I'm not paying for it. My father in law is taking the family. I'm not sure that won't be without its horrors but what the hell.

It was a great trip, overall. Seek out the more chill places on the ship. Plus a Ft Lauderdale cruise will allow more people to stick to the outside decks. That wasn't the case in Alaska.

The memes aren't quite right...production of.factory farmed meats are very harmful to the environment but wild caught game are not.

Do you have access to wild caught? I know most people don't have the option to hunt themselves.

Yeah, the weather will be more conducive to that on this one for sure. I'm hoping that it's close enough to back to school that it won't be at full capacity. I am looking forward to seeing St. Maarten and San Juan. We're going to be on the Allure of the Seas, which is apparently the 2nd biggest cruise ship in the world. Looks to be a lot of things to do on board, including a couple of flowriders (surf simulator), two giant climbing walls and a zip line.
