Moments of clarity and presence.

13 years of beautiful inspiration came to a head on Saturday night, when I finally got to put real faces to the voice and the sounds, share the same space and sing along in person.

Hearing it on a radio or a CD is one thing. Being there and having all those surmises and imagines crystallize into a moment of 'so this is what it's like' is wonderful.

Standing there with a shit-eating grin on my face, sucking in every sensation while suddenly, starkly and blissfully aware that, "I am here, now", as all other concerns are somehow gone.

This concert, those few moments of perfect clarity, were the same as washing my face in the icy waters of Loch Ness, or Hudson's Bay, or driving a Land Cruiser in the desert of West Australia. Seeing Mark Knopfler sing/play Telegraph Road and Romeo and Juliet was similar.

God, I love these moments. I'll try to live every one of them like that.

Did it get any awards? Daniel Day Louis and Paul Dano were amazing, the plot was riveting and convincing, and the formulaic was not there, or at least not obvious. All the acting was top notch, come to think of it.

Daniel Day Lewis won best actor.

On another note, I just found out my friend here in Dublin played the young Christy Brown in My Left Foot. Daniel Day Lewis won best actor for that as well.

Also, DDL is a jew.

I saw it on Friday night. Totally unexpected, innocent and cute in it's own way, as well as quite stereotypical.

I love it. Melds perfectly with her music and those amazing lyrics. The bassist sounds great too.
