House Rules and other stuff...
The rules here are pretty simple - there are only two -

Rule #1. Don't be a dick.

That pretty much says it all.  For those who are comfortable with abstract concepts please move on to #2.  For people who prefer things a little better spelled out here are some pretty simple definitions.

  • If it's dumb or illegal, don't do it.  Need we say more really?  No parody threads - the 3% that are actually worth reading don't justify the signal to noise ratio required to allow parody threads.  Don't teach people how to do stuff that is or might be illegal anywhere, please.
  • Respect is the order of the day here. No flaming other members even if someone else started it. We expect users to rise above stuff like that and let the staff take care of it. If somebody else breaks the rule please try to rise above the occasion and let us handle it. You can attack the argument pretty much all you like but you may not attack not the person expressing it.  Respect others even if they're nitwits.

Trolling, i.e., posting just to get a rise out of folks and make them angry, is a no-no.

Don't discriminate. Dissing folks because of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation or physical or emotional handicap is completely out of bounds.

  •  No porn. No links to porn. No topless women or bottomless anybody. ebassist is a work- and home-safe environment and kids do read and post on the board. If you'd like to post a picture of a scantily-clad girl please think about whether it adds anything to the discussion.  If it doesn't maybe it'd be more appropriate posted somewhere else. Failing that please post a link to the picture or put it in spoiler tags instead. We don't want anybody losing their job or family because somebody inadvertently opened an unexpected girlie pic. No pictures of people having sex with livestock.

  • Profanity in thread titles.  We can all cut loose a little and a bit of vulgarity is expected (and sometimes even appreciated) but as I said, kids read the board. Let's not put something in a thread title that you wouldn't say to a child. Inside the thread the rules are a little more relaxed.

  • No spam. If you're a contributing member selling something that's cool but folks who create accounts here just to spam the board will find both their account and IP address banned in a really big hurry. Zero tolerance for spam.  We might even repost your spam with the links disabled just for fun after we ban you

  • Related to that, no alts without telling Kashue and no sockpuppet alts, period. Alts can crawl under folks' skin in weird ways. If it's funny or clever, I might let it go, but I need to know about it to decide. If I don't know about it ahead of time, then it's definitely not going to be funny. Sockpuppet alts (designed to fake conversations - usually to shill for someone spamming) are a quick way to ban-town.

  • Stuff that's right on the line.  The goal here is not to make Kashue work.  This is a hobby for me as well and if it becomes a job I get pretty impatient with someone pretty quickly.  If you're planning on trolling the only thing that *might* keep you alive here is if you're interesting or amusing - anything else gets the banhammer.  Here's the catchall rule - I take a pretty dim view of folks who try to post stuff that's right on the line. You might find out that I moved the line - maybe even after you posted.

Rule #2. Common sense prevails. In case of a disagreement I prevail.

I think this is self-explanatory. Most people have enough smarts to participate in an online community without any interference from the moderators or from me. If you need to know whether you should post something please ask - but please also bear in mind that if you think maybe you shouldn't post it you probably shouldn't post it

In case of a disagreement please do what the moderator asks and then bring it to me. A user will always lose a pissing contest with a moderator so if there's a problem, be polite. Don't challenge moderator decisions in a public area - take it to PM and if you still can't resolve it bring it to me and we'll fix it.

I want to help out. What can I do?

This is greatly appreciated. At some point in the future, I'm likely to add a direct donation link to my host. For right now, I've got it covered.

Mobile users? Got a tapatalk link for you. http://ebassist.com/forum/mobiquo.

Okay. I think that's all. Please enjoy your stay here
