View Full Version : Acoustic Treatment (you know, for a room)

I'm going to try some acoustic treatment for my project studio. I have just about all the gear I want (for today), and I think this should help the room sound better. I'm going with an Auralex treatment pack (this one (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SFS112/)). They offer a free service where you can send in a sketch and description of your room and they'll suggest a product and placement options. It's along the lines of what I was planning on doing anyway, so I'm going with it.
Thoughts? Opinions? Well worth the money, or a huge waste of time and cash? I'm hoping to get a better-sounding room out of this, which will hopefully lead to better-sounding recordings. After this is done, I'm going to pretty much say screw being in a band and start working on an album of my stuff. Just for the heck of it. And if nobody ever hears it, so be it, but at least I'll have it done.

Before you do any thing, talk to Modman!!!!!! His new job is working for a company that supplies these sorts of products. I know they have some similar packs to what you are talking aout to. The link to his company is in his sig!

Yeah, and I wish I hadn't. The doctor thinks he can sew those 2 fingers back on though. I never knew you were so vicious! :D

Well, son of a gun. I already ordered the stuff. Something to keep in mind for next time, though. I'll remember that.

What the hell is your problem? You didn't put your options up for ebassist to tear to shreds, offer completely off the wall and juvenile alternatives, and generally make your decision making process a living hell? It's like I don't know you at all any more...:(

Asking Auralex to suggest what products would best treat your room is always an expensive proposition. Ask your next car salesman which options you "need".
If you end up having bass build-up problems, do a search on Real Traps plans. Build your own bass traps for cheap.

Yeah, these days I go with the "show y'all what I did" approach, instead of the "y'all tell me if I should do this" threads that just lead to tears and salty regret. :P
Seriously, though, if I'd known he worked for a company like that, I'd have approached him. Hm. There's a closet just off that room that would work wonderfully for an isolation booth with the right treatment... :D

Actually, I gave them a budget number and they came in well under it. Going to a manufacturer about issues like this is never a bad idea as long as you know enough about it to tell if they're trying to string you along. It would be more like asking one of the engineers at GM what options you need, not a salesman.

Hi Joshua, sorry I missed this thread earlier, but you'll probably like the foam for a home studio project and it seems to be fairly versatile. Just one note though, that foam is made of polyurethane and is flammable, so keep it away from heat sources. If you find you do need anything else, let me know and I'll work you a deal... :) I'll also be happy to answer any questions if you have any too...
...and if anyone is looking for raw materials to build their own, I can provide that as well...
