Hello all,
Just signed on ebassist.... woohoo!!
Totally *new" to bass practicing, I need ideas on how to fix a home practice setup. I need to work on ear training, music theory, play along CDs/radio. On a budget, of course.
So far: Ibanez TR100 (mid 90's), Fender Bassman 100 (the 1x15 + tweeter).
I am thinking:
- bass + amp
- PC with tuner, ear training, slowdown software
- Cd player, stereo amp with a good amount of EQ, speakers.
Anything wrong or missing here?
Better way to go about that?
- magic
P.S.: just (re)discoverd by chance: jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves, live performance recording... wow!
Pandora. Lots-o-effects, slowdown sampler, aux in for external music, bass canceller to let you play along with externa music w/0 interferance, lot's of drum patterns to play along with, slightly bigger than a pack of cigs, great headphone amp, great interface between bass and PC, a used PX3B can be had for around $70 on evilbay. What's not to love?

You've got a good starter bass and amp, who needs gadgets? Get a metronome and a boombox, and start spending time with the instrument in your hands, making music and playing along with CDs.

Welcome aboard Magicfingers! I concur with the Lug recommendation. I myself use an old Scholz Rockman - the first headphone amp for bass. It's all good, but IMHO the most important thing of all is to make sure your bass gets a lot of playing time no matter what you're using it through or playing. The more time it spends in your hands getting thumped, the better you'll get. Period. If you don't pick it up, you won't progress... Period.

Indeed, welcome.
Now, breathe. Learn to love you bass before you add anything to it.

Cool. Now and then we have Masshole get-togethers at Redbones in Somerville. Good evening of banter and BBQ with good people...well, we do let tim the enchanter come too, but he's harmless :D

You can get this book for a few bucks off Amazon. Great book to start with. The best one I know of.
Spend time with your bass, lots of it. Keep a log of what you practice and how it goes and what speed you play clean at. One more thing, USE A metronome or a drum machine.
Welcome and grab a beer from the frig, have a good time and Hello.

MagicFingers, the tone is in the wood and the wire and in your hands. There's no stompbox that you can plug in that will change that fact even a little bit.

You forgot to mention that it runs on batteries too.
I can't but love mine. Even when I use the Lug effect.
