Anyone know what these are all about? I've seen a few mentions of them on the boards, but I'm curious if anyone knows anything about them, or if anyone's tried one.

Yup, tried one, sold one!

There basically a '70's or a Jaco Pastorius style bass and look kinda cool.
Nothing special though.

Cool, thanks. I had a look on the Squier page, and they do look really nice, but then, it's not difficult to make a shitty instrument look good on a web page!

They do look good in real life as well, and are not that bad.
They're just €200 - €300 basses.

For a good basic Jazz Bass, they seem like a great value. The fretless I played was well put-together and felt good. My only concern is that the ebonol fretboard marks up very easily.

It compared very favorably to the Custom Shop Jaco Tribute Jazz hanging next to it.:D

The verdict on a lot of forums is overwhelmingly favorable, especially for the price.

I can vouch for them... I played the 70s jazz (not the fretless) in store and it played GREAT. A friend of mine bought the bass, and he's loving it.

The Koreans and Indonesians are catching up.

The Koreans caught up a while ago, IMO. Now the Indonesian and Chinese guitar makers are the low-end...and they're not bad

How are they compared to an SX?...and is there a chance that they come out of the same factory?

The Squier J I tried seemed to be made out of better materials than my SX. Maybe it just seemed that way, though.

I have found them to be close to the same build quality, If I was going to buy a cheap J or P bass I think I would choose the fender for the reason that I have had a few SX that where killer after I took the time to set them up. I have also had to send two back because they where just pure and simple shit. Don't get me wrong, Rondo took them back no probs. But I like to be able to take the cream of the crop so to say. I live a long way from any place that sells SX, lots of fender places with in few hours drive. I thinks its kind of a "let the bass choose" me instead of me choose the bass, you know, try that thing out before I take it home.
