Is this a good idea? Show up with just a wireless unit and a bass and plop it straight on the board? Do you need a preamp or is the sound guy just gonna change however you sound anyway?

No cords, no amp, no speakers!

You'd need a pre amp with that.

(whoohoo!!!)

Why? The wireless can throw stuff up at mic level.

if you know, then why do you ask?

In theory I guess it can be done.

But. Driving around without a spare tire can be done as well. But. I wouldn't recommend it.

I don't know. I think it's a good idea but I'm not sure. I'm even assuming that mic level is line level. Is this true?

I'm throwing the idea up but know next to nothing about it, and so hoping to encourage technical discussion.

Mic level is not line level. However, mixers have mic-level inputs, so it should work. At church, we run the wireless receiver right into the board. Not sure why there would be a problem with guitar wireless.

But a lot of people go for complete transparency with amps and claim that they have acheived, "the sound of their bass". What better way to do that then by going direct?

Thanks. Is line level the same as regular instrument output level?

No, line level is what you would get out of a preamplifier. That's where we get our favorite phrase "you'll need a preamp with that." Instrument or mic level is very weak, so you use a preamplifier to get it up to line-level. I don't have specific voltages, but the two are not the same.

So is the wireless output must be at line level? It says 'line out' under the 1/4" plug, and "mic out" under the XLR plug.

Hmmm....got an owner's manual? By the way it sounds, I would imagine you would be correct. It would be handy to know the voltages to see how hot the line or mic out is.

Yup, mixers have pre amp built in. I'd prefer a bass pre amp though. Sorry...
