Let's say you could own any 5 basses in the world - they can be specific instruments (eg. Paul McCartney's Hofner, Jaco's "Bass of Doom), or just a particular model (1960 Jazz Bass), or whatever. What would they be?

I'll start (of course!! :D ).

1958 Precision - the original, the best!! Definitely 2-tone sunburst

1960 Jazz Bass - stack knob, preferably in Olympic White or Sonic Blue, and if it had a matching headstock, I'd go nuts!!

1963/4 Jazz Bass - same colours

1963/4 Precision Bass - Olympic white or sunburst

1968-72 Jazz - black, rosewood board with those sexy block markers

* 1958 Precision - The gold anodized aluminum pickguard is so hot. Sunburst please

* Ibanez USATK - The big daddy of my ATK's. They are getting rare birds...

From the famous people I'd steal:

* Marcus Miller's Jazz bass - I wonder if it would sound better in my hands than the Japanese copy did.

* Sting's fretless Ibanez Musician - Too cool!

* Derek Smalls doubleneck BC Rich he uses for Big Bottom

The first 3 are easy...my 2 JAFs and Ely's '64P. After that, probably Rowka's Alembic.

Carl Thompson Scroll 4-string

Divinity Guitar Works (Benavente label) Oracle 7-string.

BC Rich Mockingbird Supreme. Silver Metal Flake & J pickups.

Ken Lawrence Brase 5-string.

All 5's strung EADGC. I'll use the 7 when I want the low B.

Hmmm... from a collector's standpoint...

- the first electric bass ever made

- Fender #000001

- Jaco's beat-up Jazz Bass

- Victor Wooten's Fodera Yin Yang

- Les Claypool's Carl Thompson Rainbow Bass

From a player's standpoint, I have the five I need...

This is tough, my attempt:

- Fender '64 Jazz bass in Ocean Turquoise with matching headstock (got the custom shop-version in store for merely € 4499)

- Fender '68-'72 Jazz (in Mocha for example) with maple neck

- '79 Musicman Sabre

- Fodera single cut 5-ver (Tom Kennedy's bass would do)

- '58 P-bass

or

- Jaco's bass of doom

- Victor Wooten's Fodera tenor bass

- Michael Manring's Zon Hyperbass (man, I would love to try this one out)

- Les Claypool's Thompson

- Geddy Lee's original ...eerrm... 'Geddy Lee'

G-Bitch

I'd go for just one bass for collection/value - Jameson's 'funk machine'

The rest would just be for my playing pleasure:

G&L L2000 in red sparkle (yeah, man - got that one)
Status of some sort - haven't played enough to decide which
MM stingray, natural, 2 band (had it but turned it over for a profit)
Shuker custom 6 with custom MM p/up and weighing in at around 10-11 lbs (dreaming! couldn't justify replacing my current shuker 6!)
