As christened by its rightful owner, TTE.

drummer looking for bass player and / or keyboardist

short and to the point:

-looking for a bass player and / or a keyboardist to play with
-i'm a 21 yr old drummer (been playing for 4 years)
-i'd like to play semi-goth-pop rock metal... think joy division meets the smashing pumpkins (siamese dream era) and then gets hit by type o negative and then parties with duran duran
-unfortunately, i do not have a basement or a legitimate space to play in, but i do have a garage that can accomodate if need be
-if you could sing that would definitely help, but i'd like to cross that bridge when i come to it

:dunno:

Well, at least he's honest that his "having" a garage may not be legitimate. :D

Yeah, I was wondering what it was like to have your other influences hit by Type O Negative...

Hi, my name is Drew. I have a friend named Matt. Matt has a guitar. Sometimes he plays the guitar and sings songs. Sometimes I sing along.
Matt and I are interested in forming a band. We need a bassist and a drummer (as you can most likely discern from the title of this post), and we have a few simple stipulations regarding the type of band we would like to form:

1)We would like our band to be experimental. However:
2)We would like to retain the heart of what we believe music should be- a means of communication that can transcend the barriers of traditional thought, and reach people on an intangible plane of consciousness. Basically, we don't want to be weird for the sake of weirdness...every element should contribute to a message or theme within a song.
3)A foundation in classic rock and current indie music trends is preferrable if not vital.
4)No hardcore (we are kind, gentle creatures).
5)Finally, it would be desireable for interested parties to possess some degree of intellectual interest. Psuedo-intellectualism is fine. Its how we roll, yo.
6)Sense of humor sense of humor sense of humor...

As a rule of thumb, if you think that this post is ridiculous on more than several levels, than you probably aren't what we're looking for.

Matt and I both have several years of experience, but are open to playing with less-experienced musicians. Matt's e-mail is listed above. In addition, you may reach me (Drew) at xxxxxxxxxxx.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Have a fancy day.

Looking for a female singer to blow hooks on your tracks? I'm here!

Do you have a bangin azz track, but can't find a female who can blow hooks to complement it? Well, you may have to look no further.

I write/sing hooks. I also try to get in the studio every now & then to do my own thing, but $$ is kind of tight right now. So, presently, I've decided to write/sing hooks for other artists. Maybe my time to shine will be after I've helped others.

Let me listen to your track and I'll write a bangin azz hook for you... quickly. If you already have hooks for your songs and you just need a female's voice to enhance the track, that's what I do. A lot of people ask who (in the singing industry) I sound like. I hate to compare myself, however, I have a vocal sound of the late, great Aaliyah, a little Mariah, Denise Williams, Ashanti, Tamia, Beyonce, etc, all wrapped in one. Think I'm bullsh_ttin? Hit me up. I can also be versatile and do a little Stephanie Mills, Natalie Cole and/or Gladys Knight. If you've never heard of these singers, then I am NOT the "hook singer" for you so don't waste your time responding. (With all due respect).

I'm interested in working with serious individuals. Please don't respond to this ad if you're not serious. Also, if you do respond, please be ready to explain to me what your project consists of, and what project you're working on because my time is very important to me. Oh yeah, I won't waste your time either.

Hollaaahhhhhh!!

Where do these people come from...? Other than this is just from the Richmond CL... :dunno:

I need some real motherfuckers for this here band I am growing...I sing, write and play the guitar....the sound is 3am basement dive bar psychedelic soul rock, telling tales and laying down the swagger with certainty...

.I need people who are supremely dedicated, willing to practice 3-4 times a week, people who have a solid and stylish command of their instrument, motherfuckers with some style and some character, people who would drop everything at a moments notice in order to make this work...I have no visions of sapping around in some shit ass econoline van playing for 15 people in Boise...this is the for real shit and I need some warriors to jump on this rollicking trainwreck of power and stealth....

influences range from Zep, al green, Otis redding, bowie, grimey Rza beats, low, sigur ros, my bloody valentine, pretty purdie ect....bring it, send it....

also...I am 26 and I have a large attic practice space in allston with drums...

Female frontwoman. I like to sing. I'm pretty goddamn good at it.

I'm not in the mood to sing your pretty harmonies or add some hook.

I want to to be in a band influenced by Concrete Blonde, , KISS, Iggy Pop, New Order, David Bowie, Dr. Dre, Sam Cooke, Motley Crue, T Rex. I'm a 5'7 Pat 'effin Benatar, with better hair.

I have no demo. Lets just get drunk and go to kareoke.

I would love to conduct an experiment where one of these Supernova wannabees writes down their "progress" in making his/her rock dreams come true in a journal for all of us to read, so that future music hacks will just stick to their day jobs. The journal would probably go something like this:

Day 1: At a house party last night, after we were all high, I broke out my acoustic and totally jammed some cool tunes out for people. Everyone kept bugging to do something with my music, so I finally broke down and put an AD on Craig's List today. Hopefully, this will be just the jump-start I need to take my gift of music seriously.

Day 2: I got 8 responses from drummers and 3 from guitar players. Didn’t the guitarists read the AD? It said that I played guitar. Oh, well. Maybe one of them will switch to bass? I got some response from a chick that is looking to front a band, but I want a dude to bring some testicular passion to my lyrics. I didn’t even ask for a female singer. Isn’t that odd?

Day 3: My landlord said that it would NOT be OK to practice in my apartment, so it looks like I'm going to have to get a rehearsal space. I have a lead about some place in Allston called the Sound Museum. My girlfriend is going to drive me there after work.

Day 4: The good news is that I found a space. The bad news is that it costs $500 a month and it smells like urine and Febreeze. I guess you have to spend money to make money...right?

Day 5: I moved my stuff into the rehearsal space today. Sweet. I also emailed the guys who are interested in the band and told them to come down to audition. I decorated the place with Nirvana and Alice in Chains posters. I used some milk crates so we can put beers and stuff on.

Day 6: Only 3 guys actually showed up to audition. Chickens! This one drummer kept asking me where the bassist was at. Who cares? I'm hiring you; just do your freaking job! We'll find a bassist there sticks, don't you worry.

Day 7: Finally decided on a drummer. He was cool. Only guy that wasn't criticizing my playing. His name is Jeff and he has a goatee to hide his second chin.

Day 8: Jeff and me just jammed today. We think we have at least 40 songs. I really think this is going to happen!

Day 9: Jeff and I listened to some guitarists. Some guy was from Berklee and was talking about notes and stuff and I just told him that Sebastian Bach can’t read music and look how famous he is. So there ya go Quincy Jones! We settled on a guy named Dale who also works as an IT guy, so he can do our website for free! I'm going to share the guitar duties with Dale.

Day 10: Put an AD on Craig's List looking for a bass guitar player. I should get 100 responses since the AD was so totally awesome. You'd have to be a shmuck not to want to get aboard this train before it leaves the station.

Day 11: Jeff, Dale and I just jammed.

Day 12: Jeff, Dale and I just jammed.

Day 13: Jeff, Dale and I just jammed.

Day 14: Jeff, Dale and I just jammed...

…Day 30: Rent is due.

Day 31: After having no luck in finding someone to throw down some bottom, I've decided to play bass myself. It should be easier since there's 2 less strings.

Day 32: I bought a 4-string Epiphone bass today. Thing is so cool. I can't wait to show the band. It looks like a giant hatchet.

Day 33: We decided on a name today: Shredded Mucous. Dale is going to register the domain name and then we can start soliciting work.

Day 34: My girlfriend’s sister's boyfriend is in some stupid cover band. Don’t ask me how, but they play in Boston for some cool money and we're going to check out their show at Ned Devine's tonight. Hopefully, he'll give me some contacts that I can use for gigs.

Day 35: Went to go see that cover band last night. It took us 45 minutes in line just to get in the place. They played every queer song in the book, "Summer of 69," "Pour Some Sugar on Me," "Faith." All of it: Crap. I've never seen so many people getting off at such insipid songs. I couldn’t find my girlfriend all night. Anyway, the guy gave me the name of his booking agent. This is it baby. In 2 years, this guy's band will be covering OUR songs!

Day 36: Got in touch with the booking agent and he wants our press kit which means we have to make a demo and take pictures. Damn. Between the rent, my new bass and this demo, I'm going to be broke. Good thing I'm picking up some extra shifts at Kinko’s.

Day 37: Dale, Jeff and I had rehearsal and wrote this really cool tune called, “Bush Isn’t My President.” Probably our best song yet. Things are really coming together. It's definitely going on the new demo.

Day 38: Found a guy that runs a studio and he's agreed to cut a demo for $20 bucks an hour. That's pretty good. We can play all of the songs in 15 minutes, so it should only cost $50 tops.

Day 39: Had to change the name of our band because www.shreddedmucous.com, .net, and .org are all taken. Some kind of bio laboratory... We're now known as "Sidewalk Mucous." Dale is working on the site now.

Day 40: Jeff couldn't practice today because he had to work late, so we cancelled rehearsal. It really pisses me off because he claimed to be dedicated.

Day 41: We go into the studio tomorrow. I'm planning a CD release party. There's this place called All Asia that is a huge club for original bands. I'm going to go over there and see if I can't get us a gig. Maybe I’ll tape some posters up on some telephone poles. Y’Know…a little grass roots marketing.

Day 42: Wow. We went into the studio and the engineer, Toshii Kaz, totally hooked us up. After we recorded the songs, he sat with me and meticulously went over every part. He was able to fix everything with Pro Tools. Great guy. It's nice to meet people in the business that you can respect and relate to. He's going to send the bill tomorrow.

Day 43: Toshii is a TOOL! He charged me for "mixing" and "mastering." What mixing and mastering? We totally nailed the takes. He wants $500 dollars for the master. Christ. I have to pay him because we need that CD to get work. What an A**hole!

Day 44: Used the printers at work to make some sweet press kits. All we need is a B&W picture. I can use my digital camera and throw it through Photoshop.

Day 45: We had our photo shoot today. We laid across some railroad tracks for a real cool look. All I have to do now is make some hard copies and we can get that booking agent our kits.

Day 46: I ran over from work and got that agent our kits. He’s going to shop us around to all the big clubs in Boston. Hello world...Ned Devine’s…hello Grand Canal…hello Bell in Hand! $$$$$

Day 47: The booking agent called and said that he doesn't book original bands. He asked if we knew any covers, so I guess we should learn some stuff that all the girls like to dance to like, Soundgarden, Zepp and Maiden.

Day 48: Having some trouble learning the covers. I'm getting the feeling that the other guys just aren't practicing. I know I come to practices ready to go. I can't figure out their deal. Either they have the desire to make it big, or not.

Day 49: Screw the booking agent. We just got our first gig at All Asia by our own damned selves, baby. It's this Wednesday night from 7:47 until 8:32 p.m. We are totally going to rock out with our cocks out! My girlfriend is going to bring 2 of her friends to the show and my roommates should be there as well.

Day 50: Jeff quit the band today. He said he has too much between work and his girlfriend to commit to a full-time project. Crap. I'll put an AD on Craig's List tomorrow looking for a drummer. It’ll probably read like this,

“Original Metal band looking for kick-ass drummer. Must have dedication, skills and ability to play hard and furious. This band is going places. Just released debut CD and have gigs booked. Don’t let this opportunity pass by.”

Think I’ll get any responses?

A study conducted by UCLA's Department of Psychiatry has revealed
that the kind of face a woman finds attractive on a man can differ depending
on where she is in her menstrual cycle.

For example: If she is ovulating, she is attracted to men with rugged
and masculine features. However, if she is menstruating, or menopausal,
she tends to be more attracted to a man with a spear lodged in his chest and
tape over his mouth while he is on fire.

No further studies are expected."

...and can sing and play bass, then three guys in their forties playing pop/rock need you. Please reply.

Vocalist looking for anyone interested in putting together a band like this, wigs and stuff too. Serious , but tongue in cheeck. For playing out once a month. Need 2 Guitarists, Bass and a Drummer. Anything cheese hair band goes as long as it was semi popular. Please no dudes that are actually still stuck in the 80's.

Bon Jovi, Warrant, Montley Crue, Skid Row, Van Halen, Tesla, Priest etc.

Just putting out the feelers.

How do they want a glam 80s band if they're not at least a *little* stuck in the eighties? :dunno:

Im heading to Richmond and would like to get a band together. Im looking for the right people to get a project up and going as quickly as possible without compromising our high standard. Starting out with covers to get locked in on our own sound and then adding originals. I would hope that this would grow into a long term original group. Im into rock with real guitarist, the kind that play lead, not just chugging drop tuned stuff. A vocalist that can sing, silly screamers, screaming is for kids. A drummer who understands dynamics, electric kits and triggers are a plus. Thunder fingers on bass would be prefered over Micheal Anthony, but both have there place. Into melodic rock, harmonies, well rehearsed and played music. I will not hold youth against the right musician, and please have vices that dont effect your professionalism. I would like to get this project going this spring. Playing out when we are up to the level we all would deem up to par. Thanks for responding if this is something you think you might be up for.

Unless you count the ads from the people that have put an ad on there every day for the past 3 months and still hasn't found what they're looking for, because their criteria is too narrow, or they're obvious doucheguns.

Ridiculous Man Looking For Ridiculous Band

Hi Everybody,

My name is miles, I play guitar like the rest of the sheep, although I tinker with Bass, Sax, and Dijeridoo. I want to find other people to play music and start a gimmick band.

Some ideas --- inspired by several all-pirate bands I was thinking a theme-band about any of the following: astronauts, robots, gold prospectors, samurai, jacque cousteau, zoo-ologists/biologists or accountants. I was fantasizing about village people (although less homosexually influenced) elecro-pop version with one of each of these characters. We would be like "The Urban Professionals"

I was also thinking about a gimmick band entitled the rent-a-punks or perhaps Mister Michifous and the rent a punks. I really like band names that have front men and backup bands.

I also have been writing a rock opera (seriously) and would like to find people that might be interesting in helping finish act 2. I can let you in on the plot. I also know some video-animating and you can check out my sloppy video shizzy at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8201112703711656349&q=%22miles+disney%22

Copy and paste, you know the drill. I am singing in the track and playing the guitar. It's a pretty sick track.

Anyways, hopefully the world has a few other odd-balls that wishes to achieve all the respect of devo and millie-vanillie put in a blender.

See Yuz Guys later.

So I've got a drumset. I've had it for about 3 years. I've never gotten good at it cuz I never play it. My primary instrument is guitar and I write and sing a ton of songs. But I want to get better on the drums. So I'm wondering if there are any other equally not-that-skilled musicians out there looking to form what should be a fun and weird and stupid and hilarious music project. For a while I was thinking it'd be cool to have a band featuring 3 sorority girls on guitar, piano, bass, and vocals, with one "alien" named Turgzar (to be played by myself) on the drums... but that might be a little too high concept. I just wanna do something light and fun that forces me to get a little better on the drums. For the record, I can keep a beat and come up with cool ghetto beats, but that's about all I can do.

looking for drums and bass to start playing music. tastes range from metal to modern classical to hip-hop. right now i'm especially into drony-type metal, soul, and experimental guitar music. a band that combines all three with classic songcraft would be ideal. think nick drake and coltrane fronting black flag, produced by kevin shields. must be able to rehearse over the summer in order to start gigging next fall.

Bass player looking to form 80s heavy metal cover band for gigs around Boston. I don't have a car or a place to practice so it would be great if you were on the green line. I also have a terrible little amp, so if you happen to have a bass amp that would be great... but let me tell you what I do have.

I have a dream.

I have a dream of getting up on stage every weekend dressed as Nikki Sixx, Bobby Dall, or Rachael Bolan and rocking out. A set including songs like livewire, talk dirty to me, Youth Gone Wild, Livin on a Prayer, and maybe even Paradise City to close....

I have a dream.

Rock band seeking new bass player. We are fun loving rockers in our mid-twenties. We're looking for the same. Must be able to play bass and get the job done first and foremost. Looking for someone who can appreciate Slayer, but that isn't afraid to drive to a Slayer show listening to a Coldplay album. We play punk type music, but there's a lot of deviations ranging from blues to video game sounding stuff to whatever. I like social distorion a lot, u should too. We like drinking and partying, u should too.
No socially awkward people, no junkies, no jobless bums.
We party hard, but we work even harder as a professional, working band.
Male, female, alien, whatever, as long as you live to rock we're interested.
Backing vocal capabilities preferable.

I've recorded about 200 of my very own emissions and organized them into original musical works that cover a wide spectrum of rhythmic and harmonic textures. If you are familiar with the 92 KQRS morning show in MN or the 99X morning show in Atlanta I recently got a good amount of airtime on them - just looking for additional ways to spread my music, and if you're sick of all the crappy bands out there that can't compose, can't play their instruments, sing like a bunch of wussies, or just all sound the same, I invite you to check out something new and exciting, all of which was expelled from my very own posterior -

Do you play electric (bass) guitar ? Barter with me for 1/2 hr??

I am looking for an electric guitar player (bass?) to come to my house and play for a little while, maybe 15 minutes/half hour. My neighbor underneath me thinks that he's a musician and that everybody likes to hear him play his guitar.

I have a disability which makes me acutely sensitive to sound and this guy is driving me nutz (I can experience psychological flashbacks to being beaten as a child when subjected to loud sound/loud music playing, especially, and adrenalin attacks are not good for my heart).

(I also have an absentee landlord who wants to evict me if I bring problems to his attention) and I cant get it thru this guy's head downstairs that he is creating a royal disturbance by playing in a residentially zoned 3 family house.

My disability also requires me to work at home and I cannot work when this guy is at it......

The city of Boston has ordinances that require musicians/performers to sound proof their units if they live in multi-dwelling housing so as not to disturb others around them.

I want to find someone willing to come to my house and play for a little bit, a simple taste of his own medicine shall we say.

I can't pay you for the gig (1/2 hr tops maybe) however, I am a multi-medium artist who is working mostly in glass arts right now. I can offer you a barter for your time and trouble in the form of some glass work (or a photograph).

I am easy to get to via the subway or by car. I am a 10 minute walk from the subway (Red Line Ashmont train, Fields Corner stop). There is parking on my street if you want to drive and I am right next to Ronan Park.

Mucho appreciated.

Please call 617-555-xxxx
Thanks so much.

The Jazz Workshop

So what exactly is a “Jazz Workshop”?

In this case, its an opportunity to gain experience actually playing jazz with other people, and to improvise. Its a chance to really dig into some tunes and solo over chord changes, learn some of the standard repertoire that all jazz musicians play, and deal with jazz as it applies to your instrument, whatever that may be.

You don't have to know anything about jazz to be in this workshop, but you do have to have a minimum level of proficiency (1-2 years) on your instrument. If you do know something about jazz, and want to gain more experience playing with people, that's great also.

There are different sessions for different levels, from beginning jazz musicians to more experienced players.

All instruments, whether you play sax, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass or drums, are welcome! The maximum number of students in the class will be six. All students will have the chance to play for the entire session, and to improvise as well. (If you haven't done that before, this is a great place to start - and if you have, this is a great place to gain more experience.)

The session will be led by guitarist XXXX YYYYYY (www.xxxyyyyyy.com), a working professional musician with 15 years of experience playing jazz. We'll be playing tunes out of the "Real Book", the main source of repertoire for jazz musicians everywhere. The atmosphere is low-pressure, supportive, and above all, fun!

There are several sessions each week, Tuesday nights from 6:15-8:15pm and 8:30-10:30pm, and Saturdays from 9:45am-11:45am, 12-2pm and 2:15-4:15pm. The cost is $60 per session. I look forward to working with you - just send an email to register, or to ask any questions you may have.

You can get more information about the workshop at www.thejazzworkshop.net.

Thank you!

I want people that suck!

Yeah, that's right. This is for people who aren't experienced with instruments, but want to form a project together, and if all goes well, start performing for fun and the art!

I want to sing, and I can play a little keys. But yeah, my skills aren't honed at all. But I think we can do well, because I have a vision of how I want the sound, and I listen to a variety of music that shapes my influences. I dream about being on stage, and letting it out like an animal. Not to be a rock star, but to be part of making great music that'll eventually be critically appreciated whether it inspires 1 person to form a band, or many. That's my goal, it's all about the music.

I want to form a lo fi project, similar to Guided By Voices, which is my biggest influence. 4 chord structure, simple, catchy songs, with a garage sound. Any instrument goes anything from the guitar to the cello to african drums, and we do have good drums that'll back the entire sound up.

I'll list some of my influences and see if you'd be interested!

Apples In Stereo
Neutral Milk Hotel
Dinosaur Jr
The Clash
Wolf Parade
The Velvet Underground
Bob Dylan

I am selling a high quality stripper pole purchased online from platinumstages.com. It is the same pole that is used in clubs nationwide! It can be a stationary or spinning pole. I have the box it came in, easily fits into a backseat or trunk. This is a removable pole but not the cheap kind from spencers. Its spring loaded with a disc that secures it from your floor to ceiling- nothing that you cant assemble/disassemble in minutes. Its a fully removable pole- no screws, etc. It comes with directions and I am asking $200 or best offer. Go check it out at platinumstages.com- its a $250-$350 pole. 1 inch diameter and silver. Any questions?

Didj Bass available for jams and gigs

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reply to: comm-xxxxxxxxxxx@craigslist.org

I play the Didj-Bass excruciatingly well in a myriad of styles. I'd like to play out more often if possible, and I really want to be involved more with the local music scene.

The didjeridoo and bass instruments are usually individually played, but each (in my mind) seem to miss a little something in both their sound and appearance. I play a professional quality instrument and I gig quite a bit with it. When played as a melodic instrument the Didj-Bass can rock as hard as the Scorpions first album (which I perform solo as a tribute, and usually on ice), and can generate the sweeter tones of Celine Dion warbling the quiet sections from her theme song "Let's Talk About Love " - I'm told I look exactly like her when performing this song. When played as a backing instrument the Didj-Bass can provide a driving sound that your ensemble has never heard. Not to mention it will set you apart by both making your band visually distinctive as well as opening up a definite market of Didj-Bass enthusiasts. Also: I don't drink very much so the band bar tab would not be adversely affected.

Just a few of the topics we like to cover ....

Hi. Do you enjoy finding a quiet corner to sit and write poetry about your feelings? Do you find subtle beauty in the everyday? Do you find that sentimental lyrics often tug at your heartstrings, resulting in a meditative rumination on the fragile innocence of love? If yes, do not contact us. Ever. Or we'll eat your family.

We like Ween, Alice Cooper, Motorhead, Nashville Pussy, and Gloria Estefan. We enjoy being loud, obnoxious, and tasteless. We also enjoy kittens .... to cuddle with .... and to eat!! We like metal, island music, bluegrass, and primusy-weenesque-freakout-garbage. We need a bass player. Preferably someone who is not very good. And also, ugly. Here's us:

Page hasn't been updated since Moses wore shortpants. We have a ton of new tracks. If you are interested, we can send you more of our material. And our blood.

Our core is a batshit insane keyboardist/synth sex offender, and a guitarist/producer violent religious fanatic. Recently, we hooked up with a drummer (we think he might be gay ... and a midget), and now, we just need the glue. Sweet, sweet glue.

The goal here is to play shows. Upset people. Record. Bond with hobos. Wear funny hats. Offend those with delicate sensibilities. Learn how to craft fine wooden furniture. Play brain-melting, spiritual-existence-questioning, bad-habit-forming music. But mostly, to offend people.

Are you our glue?

I am just a photographer that WAS friends with all these guys.
I began dating the singer and when he left the band, the remaining members became highly immature, unreasonable and even hostile. Today, I was just leaving work when a bulletin on MySpace was brought to my attention.
Basically they throw him under the bus. Fine whatever, that's immature but whatever. It would normally just make me say, "That sucks. Sorry, man." and I'm over it. BUT, after they rip him to shreds, they went after me, making false statements about me engaging in sexual acts with an unknown person.
Now rumors normally don't bother me and I am usually very adult and let crap like this roll off, but after harassing my friends and family, it's just too much. This is unacceptable and uncalled for. I did NOTHING to provoke this. But If you mess with the bull you are GOING to get the horns.

Here's a little FYI about the remaining band members:

*They steal gear from bands they play with.
(Anyone missing a Marshall Mode 4 head from a Suffocation show back in December?... Bueller? Bueller?)

*They steal riffs. A lot of the guitar work is lifted from OTHER local bands.

*They talked shit about me for no fucking reason, all I did is help that band and shot them for FREE.

*They think they're the best band, but nobody goes to any of their shows.

*Mike does steroids and cheats on his fiancee, CONSTANTLY.
(He got NAKED in front of my old boss after I brought her to a show and jerked off in front of her and asked her to masturbate along with him!!!)

Oh, you think you are? Then PROVE it to me, hotshot. Or before you know it, you'll be back flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong!

As the mighty Keith Cornella & (inhale) Broken City prepare to relocate to our new cushy rehearsal space in Winchester, we are also in need of a new bass player. Andy Johnson has left us to work in an LA recording studio... Hey Andy - playing bass for us at O'Brien's in Allston on a Tuesday night wasn't good enough for you? You wanted more?? You make me sick. Anyways, we need a new bass player. Unbeknownst to the other Broken City-ers, I will be personally accepting and reviewing applications. Please submit the following:

1) Your choice of either Donna Lee or Teen Town at 240bps, played on upright bass James Jamerson-style, using your index finger only.

2) A ten-minute excerpt of your improvisational skills, preferably in the Super Locrian mode, but Hungarian Minor would be accepted as well (unless you are from Hungary originally, in which case, it wouldn't be that much of a challenge). The excerpt should touch upon various major American compositional themes from the 20th century, including your personal interpretations of ragtime, swing, country, bebop, acid jazz, 12-tone, blues, and rockabilly. Submissions not incorporating these themes in Super Locrian or Hungarian Minor modes ONLY will be ignored, and possibly mocked in a public forum.

3) A 10,000 word opinion essay concerning the use of the plectrum by bassists in modern rock music. Your essay may not contain the letter "e".

4) A haiku, about flowers or sunsets.

5) Your checking account number, PIN, and credit score.

6) A brief bibliography of your recent (post-2004) appearances in Bass Player magazine, Modern Bassists, or Better Homes and Bassists. Any appearances on 'Oprah' would be worth noting as well.

7) If your name is T-Bone Wolk, STOP emailing me. Enough. And no, I don't know where Daryl is.

8) If for some odd reason you are unable to supply any of the above, a homemade pie would be accepted as well. I am partial to Peach Cobbler and Banana Cream.

If you've been living under a rock for the past year and a half and don't know who Keith Cornella and the Broken City Ragtime Bebop All-Stars are, info can be found at our myspace page.

* Location: Somerville

perusing the 'list this morning, and i happened upon an ibanez 5 stringer for sale. seemed to be a decent price, so i emailed the seller and asked about what model, age, etc.

turns out it's a GSR205. and he's asking $250 for it, after owning for about 4 years.

(they sell brand new for $250 on mf.com)
