If you don't like the RIAA and the ability to jack up royalty rates *retroactively* to January in a way that will likely kill Pandora and other Internet providers as of mid-May, go sign the petition ASAP at:

http://www3.capwiz.com/saveinternetradio/issues/alert/?alertid=9631541

It automatically sends that info to your Congressperson and Senators. You can also edit the message as I did. Remember to sound literate and polite. ;)

Tell your friends.

You can read more about the problem and follow links in Pandora's blog for March (http://blog.pandora.com/pandora/archives/2007/03/index.html) near the bottom of the page.

Bump. Allan, might this be worth stickying for a short while? I know there are quite a few Pandora users and other Internet radio listeners here.

I just can't remember who, other than JazzAd, (b)asshunter, and bill.

I have used Pandora off and on for over a year. Good music site. I like the fact you can create your own stations.

Petition signed.

Doesn't the RIAA have a headquarters building somewhere we could bomb?

Have Pandora move the servers to Saskatchewan! Then the RIAA can't touch them and I can have a job :D.

Pandora is from now on forbidden in France.
A lot of people received email today from Pandora and are not allowed to use it anymore.
My IP adress is in USA. :)

The RIAA got some kind of law or decree in France that favors them?

Merde. :(

Forward the info in the lead post to your friends, folks. The clock is ticking.

Dear Pandora Visitor,

We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for most listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.

We believe that you are in Montenegro (your IP address appears to be 85.94.108.13). If you believe we have made a mistake, we apologize and ask that you please contact us at pandora-support@pandora.com

If you are a paid subscriber, please contact us at pandora-support@pandora.com and we will issue a pro-rated refund to the credit card you used to sign up. If you have been using Pandora, we will keep a record of your existing stations and bookmarked artists and songs, so that when we are able to launch in your country, they will be waiting for you.

We will be notifying listeners as licensing agreements are established in individual countries. If you would like to be notified by email when Pandora is available in your country, please enter your email address below. The pace of global licensing is hard to predict, but we have the ultimate goal of being able to offer our service everywhere.

We share your disappointment and greatly appreciate your understanding.

Sincerely,

Tim Westergen

I officially hate the RIAA more than ever. Bunch of lawyer-driven hemorrhoids on the butt of humanity.

What's New!

1. According to the CRB's statutory interpretation, the first payments for Internet radio webcasters are due July 15, 2007 instead of May 15, 2007. This is welcome news for webcasters, the artists they support, and the millions of listeners who enjoy Internet radio. SaveNetRadio.org (http://www.savenetradio.org/) will spend the next 45 days educating Members of Congress and their staffs about the incredible diversity of programming Internet radio offers us all. Keep the pressure up! Your call TODAY to your local rep would help get our message across (http://www3.capwiz.com/saveinternetradio/callalert/index.tt?alertid=9679516&type=TA).

2. The Save Net Radio Coalition speaks to Congress during the Webcasters Hill Walk on May 1st, 2007. Click here (http://www.savenetradio.org/toCongress.html) for more information and pictures.

3. Read (http://www.kurthanson.com/archive/news/043007/index.shtml) RAIN's (Radio And Internet Newsletter) rebuttal (http://www.kurthanson.com/archive/news/043007/index.shtml) of the latest SoundExchange press release.

4. Download H.R. 2060, The Internet Radio Equality Act here (http://www.live365.com/choice/HR2060_InternetRadioEqualityAct.pdf).

Act Now!

The future of Internet radio is in immediate danger. Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a recent ruling and are due to go into effect on May 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006!). Internet radio needs your help! H.R. 2060, The Internet Radio Equality Act was introduced by Representatives Jay Inslee (D-WA) and Donald Manzullo (R-IL) to save the Internet radio industry. Please call your congressperson to ask them to co-sponsor H.R. 2060 by clicking below.

Call Your Representative (http://www3.capwiz.com/saveinternetradio/callalert/index.tt?alertid=9679516&type=TA)!

I think the petition linked through Pandora may be a little more efficient - but make sure you mention H.R. 2060 (the Internet Radio Equality Act) as something your representatives should support.

Signed-I'll make sure to forward this to my friends at OU's college radio station, which is internet broadcast only.

It would really suck if the RIAA forced us under.
