Anyone tried any of the new micro amps yet? These little bitty guys that weight about 3-4 lbs and put out 2-300 watts. Euphonics has the iAmp Micro 300. Eden has a little bitty guy and Mark bass has a little amp as well. Anyone had any time with these?

I've played the Acoustic Image Clarus, the EA iAmp 500, and the Phil Jones Briefcase.
Class D is the future. The Clarus spanks the shit out of anything near its weight. If Phil Jones could combine the weight of the AI amps with the size of the Briefcase and Suitcase, he'd be untouchable.

Class d has been aroud as mainly sub amps in car audio for a while. That is my only knowledge of them. I would think the newer class d amps would work great for basses. And fwiw, i thought this was a phil jones question when i read the title.

It's not micro I don't guess, but I just got a GenzBenz Neopak. It weighs 8.5 lbs and is spec'd like this:

225w @ 8 ohms
350w @ 4 ohms
500w @ 2 ohms (after upgrade)

My bandmates were marvelling at it's size and the punch that it packs.

No one tried the iAmp micro 300 yet? I would think a little amp that would fit in a gig bag would be a popular item.

Hahaha, input and level. What more do you need? :D

I'd thought about running one of these with a programmable SansAmp BDDI. The whole amp would fit in your gigbag ;)

I guess you'd have to really like how the EQ is voiced on that. I love amps with simple controls, but isn't that a bit, uh.. not excessive?

Though, I suppose you'd probably be running a standalone EQ unit with them.

There is no EQ - that's a power amp.

That's why I'd drive it with a programmable BDDI :D

Oh, my bad. Didn't know it was just a power-amp.

Want it with a preamp? Same output, 5 pounds.

Now this I like. Let me guess, they accept payment in forms of limbs, souls, and gold bullion?

Actually it's not too awfully bad. Bob Gollihur sells them for $1179 shipped - that's about what I paid for my iAmp 800. Same power, heavier amp. I will say that the iAmp is a fair bit more flexible than the AI but it's also 14 pounds heavier.

That's not so bad, you're right. Markbass combo's, though...

You're gonna need a cab with that.

AI Contra or Coda.

Killer amps, small loud and they sound incredible.

I'm a sceptic.

Same goes for almost everything made small though.

Telephones are a great example: Damned if you just CAN'T drop them off the roof and expect them to still work. Didn't useta be that way though...

THese tiny combos like the MarkBass line, I figure the cab can't be smaller than the driver, and the driver needs to puch some air so, a 1x10 I don't expect too much from. I'm sure they'd work really well in a phone booth, but they don't make phone booths anymore either.

The small heads themselves have similar problems to small computers, which is HEAT. You need space to ventilate it...

So, yes. I'm a sceptic. But it also has to do with my personal economics (and my scottish heritage!)

Im not one to jump on bandwagons, but after owning a markbass LMKII for 5 months, I have to say its the real deal. Ive played a lot of amps and its the only light weight amp that has weight to the tone.
6lbs
500 watts @4ohms
$600 bucks
= great amp.

fwiw, after pushing the head all night, its still cool to the touch. Ive never had an amp of any size that stayed this cool.

The main thing that concerns me is how will their service be in the US?
