I've decided to change my gigging rig.

I used to use my GBE 500 with an Avatar 212 with Deltas. It sounded very nice. But. The cabinet is heavy. And. We're playing out more often and I always dread having to move that thing around.

So. I got my Genz Benz 210 XB2 and I'm going to put another cab on top of it. I just can't decide what to get.

I'm guessing the 112 will give me some more low end than just having 10" speakers, but I like the idea of having more speaker area, so the 210 may be the way to go.

I won't listen to any of you and I'll eventually decide for myself. But. Feel free to offer any advice you want. :D

Lose the unibrow, and consider getting that back hair removed.

Or did you mean advice about your gear? :D

I've never heard one of these personally, but based on the fact that it will at least meet your minimal concerns - light weight, and moving some air, I think its highly likely to be a great choice. If I wasn't thrilled with my Bag End 15 cubes, I'd definitely go for a GB Neo 212 to match with my GBE600.

The Neo 212 is a teeny bit more expensive than the Avatar cabs. I'd have to sell my Avatar cab, the GB 210 and my broken Trace Elliot amp in order to get the Neo 212.

I told you, I'll trade you the Ampeg 410 for the 210-XB. You'll get a better price (and probably a quicker sale) with the Ampeg because it looks more impressive and says Ampeg on it. ;) Then sell the Avatar and buy the Neo 212. Problem solved :D

Assuming what you said above ends up being required to get the 212, are you unwilling to do that?

No. I'd gladly sell all that gear in order to get the Genz Benz 212. But. I need to get the Trace repaired, that's going to take a while. I'm sure the Genz Benz cab would go, but the Avatar might take some time to get rid of.

If anybody here is interested in any of these items let me know. They're all in good shape (except for the Trace).

Sounds like a hassle - I feel your pain in the regard.

That said, after years of experence with gear, I'm of the opinion that its much better to own fewer pieces/numbers of gear that you're very happy with than more pieces of gear that you're ambivalent about....not exactly a novel idea, I suppose :badidea:

Les....

I've read this whole thread and I don't "think" I've seen some info yet:

what type of tone are you looking for? How low is your bass tuned too?

FWIW, I don't think one 12 will give you more lows then two 10's will. I think your first post said you were looking at a single 12.

He was thinking he'd pair the single 12 with the 2 10s. But don't screw this up Roger, I want him to trade me the 210XB for my 410 Ampeg :D

Also, he plays 4 bangers, standard tuning, particularly if they are sparkly ;)

Well, if the weather is like it was last Sunday, we could play the front 9 on cross-country skis and then switch to the scuba gear for the back 9 :D

I only have a 4 string bass. It was fine using the Avatar 212. But. It's a big sucker and a pain to move around. And. It's not as clean as the Genz Benz cab.

I'm looking for the tone I get when I play the GBE through the XB2 cab when I play in my living room, but with a little more oomph, or maybe depth. Or. Maybe it's just that I want more. Does that make sense?

The XB2 has such a clear, clean, tone and it really cuts through. But. I'd like a little more. I like having more speaker in order to give myself more headroom, or coverage.

I used to have an Ashdown Mag115 and I put that on top of the XB2 and that was nice. But. For some reason that didn't give me the deep thump I wanted. So. I ditched the Ashdown and got the Avatar 212. As I said, it was satisfactory, but it's a heavy cab.

I'd love to get my hands on a Neo 212 and see what that can do. If it's anything like the XB2 I'm sure it'll give me what I need. I just need to raise the cash. I'm guessing it'll have the clean tone of the XB2, but with the oomph of the Avatar 212.

I know it sounds like a contridiction saying I want clarity and deep end thump. But. I really like what I get from the XB2, it's just a 210 is small for some of the places we'll be playing. I think combining a small cab with it will give me what I need.

We don't run the bass direct. So. All the bass in the mix comes from my amp and cab(s).

There is always beer.

In France, Jazz Ad and I drank a beer with a lemon wedge in it. It was good.

ah....okay...I see.

just as an fyi- our Neo series doesn't quite have the "grind" that the XB series does....Jason has heard these side by side.

The Neo series has more clarity and punch though. If you wanted more of a classic bass tone, I'd stick with XB.....more modern.....Neo.

Yeah, I agree whole-heartedly with this. While I really loved the Neos, I found the tone of the XBs more to my style of playing.

Les, given what your band plays, as much as it pains me to say this ;), I'm guessing you will ultimately be happier with the XBs than the NEOs. The Neos are a more crisp, precise sound, the XBs a bit rounder but a tad "tighter" than my Ampeg, for instance, which you know the sound of. :2c:

Will folks notice the difference in the venues that he plays? Ultimately he has to be happy with the sound, but I think his back would appreciate the Neo over the XB.

I think I'm going to get the Avatar 210 and see if I like the 410 sound. And. I'll save my pennies for the Genz Benz 410 XB2, which is not cheap.

Hell. The people in the bars in which we play don't even notice if I play a half-step off. Trust me I know. :D

Right now I think my back will appreciate the Avatar/Genz Benz 210's.

There's a local store that sells GB gear. So. I'll stop in and play a Neo and make some decisions then.

Arguable, depends on the room. In a small to medium sized room where some of the bass is definitely coming from stage volume, it would indeed be noticeable. If it's just his backline and all bass going to the audience is house sound, then of course no. But having had the opportunity to run both cabs side by side, the difference is pronounced.

Like I said, I loved both, but the XB was more my style. And while you are right, in many venues, the audience won't notice, I want what I hear to have the tone I like. :)
