If you have the original .wav files, you can set the sample rate of the mp3 in the settings before you process it. You probably want to set it for 128 for the best sound/size ratio...

Can you even manipulate mp3's? I haven't figured it out yet myself...
This is a pain in my ass because I'd like to take some of our better rehearsal recordings and cut the jibber jabber off the ends of them. I don't want to hand out cd's at shows with us talking at the end of the songs. We record direct to CD...

Any audio editing program will do it very easily.
Audacity, Kristal, Goldwave...

Hootech (http://www.newfreedownloads.com/MP3-Audio/Rippers-Encoders/HooTech-WAV-MP3-Converter.html) should do it. I do mine in Wavelab.

Audacity does work...maybe it's time for me to leave Cool Edit in the 90's already.:D
I didn't think you could open mp3's in editor software...

I just save 1/2 of my playing. This reduces the size by half.

I use SoundForge, but it's not free....

Audition will also deal with them (adobe bought CEP long ago).
You're not editing the MP3, it converts it to real audio data again, and will save it as whatever you like (including back to MP3).
If you have the original wav, it would be better to edit this though, just to get around as many conversions.
