Now that I have your attention...:D
Just got back from the homebrew shop with eatapita (aka Humble Dowser) where we each purchased hop rhizomes to begin homegrown hops this year. I'll be growing Nugget, Cascade and Centennials :)

Anybody else ever grown them?

Did you know that you can successfully graft hops with the kind homegrown plant? I'm not suggesting you do anything like that, though.
The microbrewery in Golden grows their own specialty hops, it's a nice scent in the early summer...

I was aware of this. They are very closely related. :)

I'm not sure why you'd do it, except maybe to have some buds growing amongst the hops all stealth-style. Not sure if there are any psychotropic benefits to either plant by doing it...

From what I understand, the two continue to mature on their own without any "cross-over". That said, you aren't going to generate enough "stealth" buds to make it worth it in that manner. Sems to me it was an experiment done by some aspiring botanist with little or no value in the real world.

That's too bad, I was hoping for buds that taste like a nice IPA, and a nice IPA that tastes like buds.

Well, the latter can (and has) been achieved ;)

I don't understand the intricacies of brewing beer, but couldn't you just replace the hops with sticky nugs in the brewing process, and achieve similar results?

If you can figure out how to cross hops with cannibis and then make beer out of it you will be my husband's hero.

You sure can. Not that I would ever advocate such things, but I have it on good authority that should someone make such a batch of beer that it is advisable to start with drinking no more than one bottle and wait to see what happens. Trust this, the source I trust as I trust myself ;)

I swear I read nothing of this conversation before the post about my husband. Apparently people have thought of this before.:P :D

I obtained Cascade, Willamette, and Magnum
Think I'm going to plant them at the lower altitude, because there is more sunlight. Too many trees in front of the higher place I was thinking about.
It was fun shopping with ya BH... hopefully in 3 1/2 years we can start doing some taste tests.

Yeah, they are essentially vines. :)

We'll get a harvest this year, enough between us for a couple of batches anyway. Not a lot though. But yeah, Year 3 will be KILLER!!!!

You'd better have gotten those hops in the ground, Mr. BH.
All the Cascades are coming up great. The bitters... not so well at the moment.

No, no, no, no...the ratios aren't the same. You still use hops in weed beer. 1-2 oz per 5 gallons is plenty for the weed portion.
Not that I would know. ;)
