I just bought a used (but new to me, obviously) mixer from someone in the HC classifieds.

It's an 8 channel behringer, with 4 mic preamps, and 99 built-in effects.

I don't have any mics yet, nor any monitors... :smack: But, plugging basses into the first four channels, and listening through my DJ headphones has been quite fun so far. :)

The whole thing seems a bit noisy, but I'll probably be able to figure out a way to clean that up.

My guitarist friend has a portable studio in some large (~10-U) SKB racks that we've been talking about bringing over to my house. The big downfall of his setup was the mixer. He has a beat up, barely functional, table-sized Sunn that he's been fighting with for years.

I'm excited about getting some of that equipment set up, for a few reasons; I'd like to be able to make dumb recordings of my own stuff, I'd like to be able to record us/others. It will also give me a good opportunity to really play with routing some audio through devices and whatnot. I know I'm going to need to relearn some of what I used to know; but that's the fun of it!

I'm just kind of rambling, but I doubt anyone minds. :dunno:

Ramble on, brother.

Your noise is probably in your gain staging. ;)

Yeah, probably. I did have the gain turned up pretty high.

Any fun things I should try with my new toys, or any other sage advice? :)

4 pre amps... Do you happen to have a UB1204-FX Stevey? I've been using my 1204-PRO (same thing without effects) for a few years now with great pleasure. Congratz!

No, I was looking for an old thread that someone made reference to, and I ran across those.

Apparently, I've only started 17 threads here (or at least those are the only ones left).

That is the shiznit fer sure! We have had one for 12 years and it's still kickin much ass! You need to get some flame decals for that since it's black...

I've only used mine to make a couple of things so far. I'm still learning how to use it. ;) It's a liiiiiittle bit different than the old handheld mixer I'm used to.
