OK, there's been talk in the works over on talkbass about doing a KC-area GTG, and it's been decided that May 19th works the best for the people involved in putting it together.

Kurt from The Bassmint has graciously opened his shop to us, and is trying to procure the Westport Coffee House Theatre (next door) for jamming and the like.

There are events scheduled (mini-clinics, etc.) throughout the day.

Informally, it's probably going to start about 10:00 when The Bassmint opens and go until it's done.

For those of you not able to access talkbass for whatever reasons, I'll do a bunch of copy/pasting from there to here to make sure as much information is relayed as possible.

Would be great to see any and all of you that are within a reasonable driving distance. One of the locals is discussing an "after-party" Brew and View thing, with beers and such at his place here in KC also.

Hey,
I am going to say "YES" on the 19th of May and call it good! The worst that could happen is a cancellation and I do not forsee that happening. I am here everyday from 10-6 anyway and I do not have a Guitar Show that weekend, so The BassMint is for sure "IN"!!!!!!!!!!!!!(I hope this is alright with you Andy?) I will supply the BBQ and some Refreshments in the form of soft drinks. I thought about it and as far as beer goes, it is still OK, but lets call it a BYOB or you guys can decide on how to purchase a Keg. The LowEnd in NashVille did one of these, so I have also been consulting with my good friend Brian Barrett. If anyone wants to bring anything that goes well with BBQ and Soft Drinks (probably in 2 liter form is what I will get) bring it on! Spread the word "All are invited that have an interest and or connection and LOVE for the Bass!

from another local,

I'd like to elaborate on my conversation with Kurt just a bit.

He's at the store starting at 10 am. Anyone's welcome to show up from that time on. We discussed the fact that people might wander in anytime between 10am-1pm, making introductions, hauling in their equipment, etc.

If he can get the theatre next door, the jam might begin there after 1pm. Meantime, the store would also be open, where it would be possible to have some mini-clinics that would be of interest. They might be related to bass set-up and repair, technique, music theory, or whatever. Kurt has also hinted at some celebrity bass activity, but I'm not sure if Sir Paul has responded yet or not.

Those that wished to jam could keep jamming, and others could ditch the jam at certain predetermined times to attend the store events.

We're figuring that towards dinnertime, folks would be more ready for the Brew and BBQ portions of the event.

As I said, I might hold an afterparty after that. I've got a cool projection TV and some interesting vids, like vintage Weather Report, for a "Brew & View" party. msquared has been assigned the task of providing his outstanding homebrew as an adjunct to our fine KC Brews.

This is all very preliminary. What do you think? Is this too structured...not stuctured enough?

Kurt would love to have your input to make this first event a success!

I don't think we'll make it, what with being in Lawrence already this weekend.

Sorry that leaves us out. LT has a job interview in the morning and it's my only day to our running around with him and Tonette.

. . . I had a car and didn't have to work tonight, I'd be up for a road trip. Unfortunately, neither is true. :(

I was ass-whupped after our gig Friday in Lawrence. Sorry I missed it.

wasn't bad, though i couldn't stay long. had family stuff happening.

briand showed up, and had to bail for a gig. the rest of the people i saw were either talkbassers, or students of talkbassers.

there was, though, easily enough gear in one room to purchase my house. glock, eden, alembic, stambaugh, etc. etc. etc...

Yep--it was way too much fun. Everyone was very cool about their gear--we all got to play some very nice stuff. Matt and I and a few others did some work for Kurt--the shop owner. If you live in KC, check it out. Great shop and super-cool owner.
