Looking at the specs of the Delta12LFA and the Deltalite II 2512. Here's a photoshop of the graphs (screenshots from Eminence .PDFs - www.eminence.com) superimposed: the Deltalite II is the top line.

So is the Deltalite going to be much louder at all frequencies, and much less 'scooped' sounding as well? There is a 3-6 Db difference from 300-1000 Hz. How much stock do I put in the relative differences of these frequency curves, given putting them in the same cab?

Much louder, no.

These graphs are measured with the speaker in free air for reference purposes, and they react differently to the same cabinet size. But. The Deltalite takes a smaller cabinet to sound good. So, depending on the cabinet size, the Deltalite might sound a lot better than the Delta.

1db is the smallest volume increase a person can hear.
3 dB = twice as much power, noticeably louder
6 dB = 4 times as much power, significantly louder
6 dB = twice the amplitude
9 dB = 8 times the power, nearly twice as loud
10 dB = 10 times the power, twice as loud

Here's the difference when you superimpose the curves. Seems like 2-3 DB more through the mids. I wonder if this would take the scoop out of the GS112 completely. There are posters on that other forum that claim good results.

I can clearly hear increments of 0.5dB of broadband signal. Pure tone, 1dB is as good as it gets.

2dB is a noticeable, but not really significant difference. That driver has a broad region where it's louder than the other driver. It would certainly be more mid present.

Well, 18 months later I'm taking the plunge. Two Deltalite II 2512s have arrived and I'll do one at a time so I can compare.

7 pounds lighter than the stock driver in the GS112, louder by 2-6db across the board while drawing 50 watts less, and 2-4ish more db in the mids. Maybe changing drivers will give the car a different character. More like a DB112 but without the weight. We'll see.

I had one the drivers replaced and just compared them 5 minutes ago.

First Impressions with a Fender Hot Rodded P bass, P pickup only, at low volume since it's later in the evening (both tweeters OFF ie minimum):

The factory driver is sweet, smooth and creamy warm, and sounds great!

The neodymium driver is more present, a bit 'ringier'. Like a thin wool blanket was taken off the speaker. Definitely more 'there' with mids. I can't say whether it's louder or not yet. A hair less perceived thump and a fair bit more grind. Rolling off the tone knob a bit gets you closer to the factory speaker sound, but different in a way because the volume seems to weaken a bit too.

So far, all I can say is that there is a significant difference in sound between the two drivers.

Weight-wise, the seven pounds difference is nice. The cab is easier to lug around without feeling like dead weight.

I'll keep them different for awhile and noodle to some songs to see how they behave. Also will compare the Neo sound with the Schroeder 1210. to see if it got closer.

Caveat: I'm a bedroom noodler with a gear fetish. I'm just describing what I hear. YMMV.

...is that with or without L/\/\ cables?
