I pulled out "Rage Against the Machine" over the weekend and gave it a spin. Completely took me back to the first time I heard it, and how much they blew me away. It's still refreshing stuff to listen to, and I think it's easily stood the test of time.
And yeah - Timmy C's Stingray kicked maximum ass!! :D

It's a classic album - personally I preferred Evil Empire simply because it was more varied and funky... but there's not much in it!

RATM was good, and I love their self titled album......but they live on in the form of Audioslave with Chris Cornell doing the vocals.....think I prefer Audioslave's selft titled album, but only just....Zack just got a bit too politically angry for me....although the music is great!!!
I love playing along with Bombtrack (although I still haven't nailed the intro), Killing in the Name of, Bullet in the Head.....and I'm working on Wake Up. If I could slap, I'd try Take the Power Back too......ooohhhh!!!
As for the Audioslave stuff.....Coshise is great, Show Me How to Live, Exploder, Hypnotise and Gasoline are just some of the songs I've been working on.......Like a Stone si quite simple, but nice too!!!!
Think Timmy's on Jazz basses now....

yup. can't say i'm too sad about it, as i didn't really care for audioslave. but unfortunately, the RATM reunion is (allegedly) only for this years coachella festival.

Coshise has such a great Zepplin feel to it. I absolutely love that song.
Not sure what went wrong with everything else they did.

RATM self titled debut was incredible. Still sounding fresh.
OTOH I loved Audioslave's Revelations. Too bad they split although I kept hearing they weren't that good live.

I couldn't stand Audioslave - Chris Cornell just doing Robert Plant impersonations. No thanks.

When I saw Audioslave live, the band was incredible...one of the tightest live bands I'd ever seen. However, Cornell left something to be desired. He's just getting too old to hit all the notes anymore. It sounded to me like his voice must have been protooled all to hell on the albums...either that or he smoked a carton of cigarettes right before he came on stage when I saw him.

That first album was fantastic. Killing in the name is still one of my all time favorite "I wanna break shit" songs.

I saw them on one of the first lalapalooza tours in like 92 or 93. I hadn't even heard of them at the time. They absolutely blew me away. I still think of that show every time I hear that first album.

Yeah, they fucking rocked. They get a little monotonous by the end of an album, but when I need to get amped to rip on a mountain, throw some weight around or generally just to break down walls, they always do the trick.

I loved early RATM. Tim C's Stingray sounded great but I think the jazzes he plays now are better for his playing.

They were (are) a great band. Incredible riffs and grooves, and very innovative solos from Tom Morello. Their biggest detractor was the fact that Zach De la Rocha(sp?) had his head up his arse when it came to politics. That really put a damper on the music.

I enjoy how much RATM stole from Funkadelic :D
Bombtrack is a slowed down version of "Alice in my Fantasies".

i at least give the guy credit for sticking to his guns. didn't he go down to chiapas for a year or two to help the rebellion or something?

funny this should come up.
in the local music scene of kansas city, there's a randomly happening thing called Phony Jam. Musos from many local bands get together and jam on a bunch of covers. Typically, you *try* not to wind up just doing covers with your own band, you try to hook up with members from other bands.
and if you're really daring, you try an instrument that isn't normally what you do. i.e. - if you're a bassist, you sign up to play guitar on something, or something like that.
anyhow, i'm getting in on this year's phonyjam in KC, and one of the songs i'm playing is going to be know your enemy by RATM.
granted, i'll still be on bass. but it should be a good time.
